So imagine the days where you could go through Skyscanner and look at random flights and end up booking them? They were good, can't wait to go back to those days.. although they seem long gone at the moment this is exactly what we did! Found a great priced hotel to go along with it and there you have it, all ready to head off.
Did you know that Tivat airport is only 3.5k away from Porto Montenegro and literally takes 5 minutes to get there by car. I mean we knew it was close but this was amazing. The hotel we stayed at was actually on a part of the port where no cars were allowed, so we may or may not got a little lost trying to find it.
The place itself is very cool, so many expensive yachts around the port, beautiful scenes across the bay and everyone was absolutely lovely. Although we were there for 5 days we spent a lot of time relaxing on the balcony or chilling by the sea as it was a toasty 30oc.
We did manage to cram a few things in though!
The Port Itself
A really fantastic place to be, full of shops, bars and BOATS. We were just amazed at all the super yachts which were there, it was just something we have really come across before. The place itself is pretty newly built and everything was really clean.
We absolutely loved all the food and drink there. It was pretty cheap to eat there considering some of the prices of the clothes in the designer shops around. I also got a dessert which I think could have fed about 4 people, I still ate it all mind..
Boat Cruise
So my first recommendation for this is to check the main language of the cruise. Ours was French which was fine as we got an interpreter.. but.. there was also a large group of German speaking guests which she also had to translate for first. We ended up just going and sitting in the sun on the boat, enjoying the views and listening to me translate really really badly! Despite that, it was a lovely day out. We got to visit some more of the local area, a church and some caves.
One thing I did manage to translate correctly was the time and place of lunch. Although it definitely isn't for picky eaters I really enjoyed it and also got to eat a lot. We also were sat with our German friends; we do not speak German and they did not speak English and it was the funniest time trying to figure out our conversations, a lot of laughs were shared.
I really recommend getting out on the bay because the views are amazing. The area itself is just stunning, I could just sit and admire it all day.
Gornja Lastva
About a 10k round trip to hike up to the small Montenegrin village with views of Tivat Bay. So apparently there is a lovely little exhibition inside one of the buildings but we never got that far into the village as we read that there wasn't anyone there. We heard really strange voices coming from some of the abandoned houses so decided it was time to go back down.
It was a VERY warm walk but the views were totally worth it. I would definitely love to get out into more on the hills in the future!
Maritime Heritage Museum
Although this wasn't very big it was still a good visit. There are 2 areas, the museum itself with some of the history around when Tivat was a navy town and my personal highlight of the old Yugoslavian Submarine which is outside. Strangely enough we've been on many submarines on our travels but this is definitely one of the smaller ones! It only cost 5 Euros and we got a personal tour by a man who was very passionate about it which I just loved! It's a pretty short walk from the port too so you might as well have a wander.
